PHOTOGRAPHER NOTES:
MORE TECHNICAL NOTES:
The fact this is one of the least expensive lenses I've ever run tests on, is amazing. This test was using the Nikon 18-55 (v2) kit lens that was included with their entry-level DSLRS (such as the D3200, etc.) It's so common and so inexpensive (and such a plastic wonder) that it's easy to assume it's not worth anything, and while it does have limitations, I think it can be worth a try. This image was shot using a TILT/SHIFT adapter (on a Micro Four Thirds Panasonic GX85).
ABOUT THE SHOT:
This image is 100% real which is very important to me (to keep the awe factor intact). The colors are real and there were no Photoshop tricks used (and especially no A.I.) It was such an amazing experience to witness this sunset, and I'm glad I had a (pretty good) camera & lens with me. This was near the marina in Des Moines, and it was December...so the air was a bit cold. Normally, I would be moving around while shooting, but this view stopped me in my tracks (and I stayed for long enough to meet a few people walking by, who I had a couple of conversations with, which is why I didn't publish the VIDEO of this scene).
*As A.I. (artificial intelligence) started sneaking into the photo & video production industries, I decided to go for 100% realism in my work. What this means for me, is to shoot for realistic-looking photos and video content. My approach includes using custom, lens-sensor specific CAMERA SETTINGS (and sometimes lens-sensor LUTs when needed). I never use A.I. to generate images, and I don't do tricks using Photoshop. There are adjustments I make to produce more accurate PRINTS but my goal is to limit editing a much as possible.
